2016 in Review

In 2016, East Side Aligned has moved from a concept to a widely-supported movement in which people from all walks of life are facilitating positive shifts in how our community works together to care for, support and empower our children and youth.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life – with so many demands and to-do’s – we often neglect to pause and take stock of all the small and big wins we achieve. In December, we hit the pause button a couple of times and the updates people shared brought us joy, hope and inspiration. In addition to learning about our progress, hitting pause allowed us to acknowledge the tremendous dedication, sacrifice and efforts of so many people – people like you – working to tirelessly to create a better future for our young people. Words cannot convey the gratitude our community has for your commitment.

I invite you to watch the videos from one of our “pause button” meetings.

As we move forward into 2017, a year that marks the 100th anniversary of the East St. Louis race riots, numerous challenges lie before us. But we remain encouraged by your collective passion, talent and commitment to build a thriving community. Together, we will advance equity and justice with and for our children and youth.
